The ultrafine slag GGBS produced by Kangjing New Materials Company is made from granulated blast-furnace slag generated during iron and steel smelting, which undergoes a re-mixing and fine grinding process. Its average particle size is less than 5 μm, with D10 less than 1 μm, a specific surface area greater than 2000 m²/kg, and a chloride ion content below 0.02%. Ultrafine slag GGBS can be used as an admixture or supplementary cementitious material to enhance the performance of various products. Its primary applications include improving the early strength of cement and concrete and enhancing certain concrete properties (such as workability, increasing early strength, and reducing hydration heat). Moreover, depending on specific requirements, its production process and blending/grinding techniques can be optimized and adjusted accordingly.
Characteristics of Ultrafine Slag GGBS
After fine grinding, the ultrafine granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) exhibits a smooth and dense particle surface with minimal adsorption of water and admixtures, thereby imparting a certain physical water-reducing effect. Typically, this results in a reduction in the amount of water required for concrete preparation. GGBS also demonstrates high pozzolanic activity and remains unaffected by high temperatures. During the blast-furnace ironmaking process, the slag powder undergoes decomposition within the blast furnace, during which calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, waste minerals from iron ore, and ash from coke melt together to form a molten material primarily composed of silicates and aluminosilicates. This molten material floats on the surface of the molten iron and, upon rapid cooling by air or water, solidifies into granular particles containing over 95% glassy phase as well as minerals such as dicalcium silicate, gehlenite, and wollastonite—minerals whose chemical composition closely resembles that of cement.
